Description
The MultiPlus-II is a powerful DC-AC hybrid converter/charger with pure sine output, with an integrated adaptive battery charger and an ultra-fast power source transfer switch (battery/external AC source).
- manufacturer: Victron Energy
- technology: low frequency
- continuous power: 4000 W
- battery voltage: 48 V
- Bluetooth: no
MultiPlus-II combines the functions of MultiPlus and MultiGrid:
- has all the functions of the MultiPlus unit plus the possibility of connecting an external current sensor for the PowerControl and PowerAssist functions with optimization of its own consumption (max. 50A).
- it also has all the functions of a MultiGrid unit with built-in anti-islanding protection on its AC input - reinforced protection against unwanted supplies to the distribution network in the event of its failure.
ESS: Energy Storage Systems:
- multiPlus-II is a key element in the Victron ESS system, providing the flexibility to combine with solar MPPT controllers or grid PV inverters.
MultiPlus-II, as the name suggests, is a combination of inverter and charger in one elegant design. Its range of functions includes a pure sine wave inverter, adaptive charging, PowerAssist hybrid technology and other functions for integration into different types of systems.
One AC input:
- multiPlus-II is equipped with one AC input for connecting a distribution network or, for example, a generator. If two AC inputs are needed, then we choose the Quattro unit.
Two AC outputs:
- multiPlus-II is equipped with two AC outputs. The main AC1 output will ensure power supply without interruption. E.g. in UPS MultiPlus-II mode, it takes over the power supply of the connected appliances (in less than 20 milliseconds) in the event of a failure of the distribution network or generator.
- the second AC output is only useful when an AC input (distribution network/generator) is available. A load that would quickly drain the batteries, such as a water heater, can therefore be connected to this output and it will be powered only from an AC source.
Four phases of charging with an adaptive charger with two outputs for charging the battery:
- the main DC output provides powerful full-scale charging of accumulators through the "adaptive charging" system. The software manages a three-stage automatic charging process to suit the battery condition and adds a fourth charging stage - trickle charge. MultiPlus-II is intended for charging all types of lead, alkaline and lithium batteries.
Virtually unlimited performance thanks to parallel operation:
- up to 6 MultiPlus-II units can work in parallel to achieve higher performance. E.g. six 48/5000/70 units provide 25kW/30kVA output power and 420A charging power..
Three-phase operation:
- three units of the same type can be configured for three-phase operation with phase shift. But that's not all, up to 6 parallel units can form one phase. A three-phase system can thus consist of up to 18 units with a total continuous output power of 75kW/90kVA and a charging power of 1200 A.
Unique features of PowerControl and PowerAssist:
- multiPlus-II prevents overloading of a power-limited AC source, e.g. a current-limited electric connection or generator. If the input AC source should be overloaded due to large consumption, the charging current to the battery will be automatically reduced in the first step (PowerControl). Charging energy is diverted to power AC appliances. In the second step, the input AC source is strengthened by the current taken from the battery (PowerAssist). The AC output receives energy from both the AC source and the battery (inverter).
Solar energy:
- You can have AC power available even in the event of a power outage. MuliPlus-II can be used both in off-grid (island) systems and in photovoltaic systems permanently connected to the distribution network. MultiPlus-II is not equipped with an input for a PV field, but it is intended to work with MPPT controllers (DC coupling systems) or mains converters (AC coupling systems) located on the AC input and/or AC output. More here in the ESS description.
System configuration:
- in the case of a simple, for example, UPS installation, the setting can be easily done in a few minutes using the DIP switches on the MultiPlus-II or the VE.Configure 3 software and a PC.
- parallel and three-phase applications can be configured using the VE.Bus Quick Configure software (up to three units) or more complex systems using the VE.Bus System Configurator software (over three units) and a PC.
- Off-grid and hybrid PV installations to support self-consumption and greater energy independence, which include grid inverters and/or solar MPPT chargers, can be configured using the VE.Configure 3 software using the appropriate assistants (specialized functions for specific applications).
- MultiPlus-II has several programmable relays and auxiliary contacts for a whole range of additional functions
- you can download the basic VE.Configure 3 software as well as other software for configuration for free at the following link: https://www.victronenergy.com/support-and-downloads/software
You will need the MK3-USB PC communication interface for the mentioned software.
